The Kanju police, with the support of the Security Forces, on Thursday took 46 persons into custody on suspension of killing Afzal Khan of Damghar.
Afzal Khan, an active member of PML-N and a successful businessman, was killed by unknown persons here in Damghar on Wednesday.
The majority of the suspects consists of those who previously remained in the custody of the police and the Security Forces for alleged affiliations with the militants and were later acquitted in want of substantial proof against them.
On the other hand, the fact that the police and the Security Forces patrolling teams were absent from the spot on Wednesday where and when Afzal Khan was killed aroused doubts in minds of the locals.
It is to be noted that being the native place of Fazlullah and the headquarters of the Taliban, Damghar was the axis of militancy during the Taliban era. After the killings of the members of political parties and the Swat Aman Committee in the area, the police and the Security Forces teams regularly patrolled the area. However, on Wednesday, they were mysteriously missing which gave rise to a multitude of questions in the minds of the locals.
