The Swat Quami Jirga sets August 13 as ultimatum for the arrest of culprits involved in attack on Al-Haj Zahid Khan

Putting the responsibility of the lethal attacks on the masharans of the SQJ on the government, the Pak Army and the police, members of the Jirga set August 13, 2012 as ultimatum for the arrest of the attackers involved in the assault on their colleague, Al-Haj Zahid Khan. The move was made during an emergency meeting on Sunday here in Mingora under the chair of Abdul Qahar Khan.
“We will observe August 14, 2012 as a black day if the criminals were not arrested till the expiry of the ultimatum,” Mukhtiar Khan Yousafzai said during the press briefing at the end of the Jirga meeting.
“The Jirga masharan are being targeted for opposing terrorism and for upholding peace in Swat,” he added.
Holding the state agencies responsible for the attack on the Jirga member in the heart of the city, he said that it was not a mere attack on an individual but a slap on the face of the Pak Army and the city administration that never tire of bragging of peace in the valley.
Mr Yaousafzai also condemned the ISPR Swat statement where the attack on Zahid Khan was attributed to family feud.
“We rule out any possibility of the attack being the result of family feud. How can one justify attacks on the other members of the Jirga in the past where they lost their lives?” Mr Yousafzai went on saying.
“It is a ripe time that we realize that the terrorists have changed their strategy. Previously, the peace shatters destroyed the schools and other government buildings, now they are depriving the Pukhtuns of their elders,” he elaborated.
He appealed to the Chief Justice of Pakistan to constitute a committee comprising of the judges of the Supreme Court of Pakistan in order to investigate and unravel the mystery as to why and who launched the blood game in Swat.
“There is a method in the killings of those who stood for the sustainable peace in Swat,” Mukhtiar Khan Yousafzai concluded.
